The Cricket World cup officially known as the ICC Cricket World cup will be played from May 30th and July 14th 2019.
The tournament will be hosted by England and Wales. A total of 10 teams will participate in this tournament. This is a matter has been put to criticism as the number of cricketing nations have gone up to 14, but those nations have been excluded. The nations that play test matches only are not be considered qualified. The nations that plays One Day matches along side the test matches are taken into consideration. The highest rank holders in the one day matches as on 30th September 2017 are considered automatically qualified.
One that basis English team as well as 8 others who had the highest ranks in the ODI as on 30th September 2017 make the 8 big contenders. Those teams are England, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies, South Africa. The remaining 1 team Afghanistan qualified through the World cup 2018 match defeating West Indies. Sadly Zimbabwe could not qualify for this year’s World cup.
The matches will be played at several venues with the knockout matches till 4 teams at the semi final and then the final will be played by the 2 best teams.
After the Pulwama attack, there was sudden outcry against Pakistan and strong protests were made to prevent India play Pakistan at the World Cup. However, it was sorted out and the games will be played as usual. The Indian squad has been announced. Let us see if India lifts the cup.
